There are many powerful benefits that can come from setting intentions. One of the top tips that successful people cite as contributing to their prosperity is being clear on what their goals are. If you don’t know what you want, how will you ever get it?! Simply taking the time to sit down and think through what your wants and desires are can have an enormous impact on your ability to go forth and accomplish those things.
One of the best times to focus our energies on new beginnings is during a new moon. I started writing intentions during new moons a few years ago, and since then I have seen many of my goals come to fruition. It’s not whether you believe in the power of the moon cycles themselves or not. Even baseball players have rituals that they perform before a game. Life is my game; and if sitting peacefully, reflecting on my heart, and writing out my goals once every 30 days or so helps me accomplish my greatest desires, then why would I ever stop? By creating this routine, I’m allowing myself the opportunity to continuously connect with myself and reassess my paths in life. When we are in line with ourselves and the forces around us, we set ourselves up to thrive.
Tomorrow is a new moon and I will be setting intentions. But what does that mean?
For me, it first means a lot of reflection. I think about where my life is and how things are going for me currently. What do I love about my life, what am I most grateful for. Putting myself in a mindset of gratitude is extremely important. If you don’t have love and appreciation for what you have now, how can you ever expect to gain more?
The next part involves opening up to yourself. I think big. I write down everything I want in my life, whether it be something I can do tomorrow, or where I see myself in 5 years. Each time I write it looks a little bit different. That’s the beauty of the process. It brings out new, unheard desires, while reinforcing and recommitting me to those desires that may be longstanding and not yet accomplished. The most important part though, is not to just write about it, but to also commit yourself to your words. Believe in yourself, your dreams and your ability to create your own happiness and successes.
I enjoy doing this ritual in a quiet room, sitting on the floor. Taking away distractions allows me to open up to myself and sitting on the floor creates a feeling of grounding and stability. It's similar to a meditation practice for me except I end up writing feverishly by the end. I always feel positive, clear headed and excited for my life when I finish. I suggest trying it out during tomorrow nights new moon and see what you find out about yourself. Maybe even share some of your intentions for the next moon cycle in the comments down below!!
